Privacy Policy

Plain language. No legalese.

Last updated: 3 June 2026

The short version

This is a personal portfolio site. It uses Google Analytics (via Google Tag Manager) to understand how many people visit and which pages they read. No ads, no profiling, no selling of data. You are asked for consent before any tracking cookie is set. You can decline and the site works exactly the same.

Who is responsible for this site

This site is operated by Madson Muller, a Frontend Web Developer based in Dublin, Ireland. For any privacy-related questions, contact: hello@madsonmuller.com.

What data is collected and why

If you accept cookies, Google Analytics collects anonymised data about your visit: which pages you view, how long you spend on them, what device and browser you use, and the country you are visiting from. This helps understand which content is useful and how the site is being found.

No names, email addresses, or other personally identifiable information are collected through the site itself. The contact email link opens your own mail client — nothing is stored here.

Cookies

This site uses cookies only if you give consent. The cookies set by Google Analytics are:

Cookie Purpose Duration
_ga Distinguishes unique users 2 years
_ga_* Stores session state 2 years

Your consent preference is saved in your browser's localStorage so the banner does not appear on every visit. This preference is not sent to any server.

You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing your browser's cookies and localStorage for this site, or by clicking Decline in the cookie banner on your next visit.

Google Analytics and Tag Manager

Analytics data is sent to Google and processed on servers in the United States. Google is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, providing an adequate level of data protection under GDPR.

Google Tag Manager is used to load Google Analytics. GTM itself does not collect personal data — it is a container that manages when other scripts load, and only fires analytics after you have given consent.

For more information on how Google processes data, see Google's Privacy Policy .

Your rights under GDPR

As a resident of the EU/EEA you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access — request a copy of the data held about you.
  • Rectification — ask for inaccurate data to be corrected.
  • Erasure — request that your data be deleted.
  • Restriction — ask for processing to be limited while a dispute is resolved.
  • Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Withdraw consent — opt out of analytics at any time (see Cookies above).

To exercise any of these rights, contact hello@madsonmuller.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) .

Third-party links

This site links to external profiles (LinkedIn, GitHub). Those sites have their own privacy policies and this policy does not cover them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised. For minor wording fixes, no notice will be given.
